These instructions apply only to fully cured Siraya Tech Defiant silicone molds. Do not attempt to heat the liquid silicone components (Part A or Part B).
The Defiant silicone series is rated for temperature resistance up to 200°C (392°F), making it suitable for sterilization with boiling water or steam. This process is effective for applications requiring high levels of cleanliness, such as making molds for food products
Step 1: Initial Cleaning
Before sterilizing, you must clean the part to remove any residual casting material, oils, or surface debris.
-
Wash: Gently wash the silicone part using warm water and a mild dish soap. Use a soft sponge or cloth to avoid damaging fine details in the mold.
-
Rinse: Rinse the part thoroughly with clean, warm water to remove all soap residue.
-
Inspect: Check the part to ensure all physical contaminants have been removed before proceeding to sterilization.
Step 2: Sterilization (Choose one method)Method A: Boiling Water Sterilization
This method is simple and effective for general and food-safe applications.
-
Submerge: Place the cleaned silicone part in a pot. Fill the pot with enough water to fully submerge the part.
-
Boil: Bring the water to a rolling boil.
-
Sterilize: Allow the part to remain in the boiling water for 5-10 minutes. Because Defiant silicone can resist temperatures up to 200°C, it will not be damaged by boiling water (100°C).
-
Remove: Carefully turn off the heat and use tongs or other appropriate tools to remove the hot part from the water.
-
Dry: Place the part on a clean, dry surface or paper towel and allow it to air dry completely. Ensure it is fully dry before storage or its next use to prevent any moisture retention.
Method B: Steam Sterilization (Autoclave)
This method is suitable for industrial or professional settings requiring a higher level of sterilization.
-
Preparation: Place the clean, rinsed part inside the autoclave.
-
Cycle: Run a standard steam sterilization cycle appropriate for silicone parts (typically at 121°C or higher). The high-temperature resistance of Defiant silicone makes it compatible with common autoclave cycles.
-
Cool & Dry: Allow the autoclave cycle to complete, including the cooling and drying phases.
-
Remove: Once the cycle is finished and the machine indicates it is safe, remove the sterilized part. Ensure it is completely dry before use or storage.
