1. Introduction

Siraya Tech Blu Lava Black is an advanced, ultra-tough PC-like resin designed for high-strength, high-resolution 3D printing. It offers superior durability, precision, and functionality, making it ideal for engineering applications, functional parts, and even medical devices.

2. Key Features

  • Ultra-high strength and durability;
  • High-resolution capability;
  • Tappable without cracking;
  • Versatile applications;
  • ISO 10993-5 / 10993-10 certified for medical device use.

3. Printing Preparation

Due to Blu Lava Black's higher viscosity than most MSLA resins, special attention is required during preparation:

  • Resin Mixing
    • Before first use, thoroughly shake the bottle for at least 2-3 minutes.
    • After shaking, let the resin settle for 10-15 minutes to allow bubbles to dissipate.
  • Printer Settings

Due to higher viscosity associated with high performance:

  • Build Platform and Vat Preparation
    • Ensure the build platform is level and clean.
    • Lightly sand the build platform with fine-grit sandpaper to improve adhesion.
    • Clean the vat thoroughly, ensuring no cured resin particles are present.
  • Temperature Considerations
    • Optimal printing temperature is above 25°C (77°F).
    • If printing in a cooler environment, consider using a space heater to warm the printing area.
    • Pre-warm the resin bottle in warm (not hot) water for 10-15 minutes before use.

4. Printing Process

  • Pour the resin into the vat carefully to minimize bubble formation.
  • If bubbles form, use a silicone spatula or similar tool to gently stir the resin and pop bubbles.
  • Allow the resin to settle for 5-10 minutes before starting the print.
  • Monitor the first few layers closely to ensure proper adhesion to the build platform.
Note: Some printers may have issues with the build platform pressing down fully for the first layer:
  • This may trigger sensor alerts in Saturn 3/4 Ultra and other newer printers. You can bypass the warning and begin printing if an alert appears.
  • For printers unable to begin printing due to incomplete platform descent, start with a thin layer of resin in the vat. Once the printer starts printing the first layer, add more resin while the plate is down.

5. Cleaning

Due to Blu Lava Black's higher viscosity, thorough cleaning is crucial:

  • After printing, let the part drain thoroughly over the vat for at least 10 minutes.
  • Use an ultrasonic cleaner with 90% or higher concentrated Ethanol or IPA (Isopropyl Alcohol) to clean for 10 minutes.
  • After cleaning, use compressed air or a hair dryer on a cool setting to thoroughly dry the part.
  • Check the dried surface by touch - if it feels sticky, clean and dry again.

6. Post-Curing

  • Ensure the part is completely clean and dry before post-curing.
  • Use a 395-405nm UV light source for curing.
  • Cure for approximately 15-20 minutes, rotating the part every 5 minutes for even exposure.
  • For optimal results, submerge the part in water during curing to increase efficiency.

7. Safety Precautions

  • Always wear nitrile gloves, safety glasses, and a respirator when handling uncured resin.
  • Work in a well-ventilated area.
  • Avoid skin contact with uncured resin. If contact occurs, wash immediately with soap and water.
  • Dispose of resin waste according to local regulations.

8. Storage

  • Store Blu Lava Black in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight.
  • Keep the bottle tightly sealed when not in use.
  • Use within the recommended shelf life for best results.
