Don't Rip That Tag Off! The Secret Utility of the Siraya Tech Filament Marker

Have you noticed the little tag attached to your new Siraya Tech spool?

If you’ve recently unboxed a fresh roll of our filament, you’ve likely seen a small card threaded through the filament strand right inside the silver vacuum bag.

At first glance, it seems simple enough. It serves as a helpful reminder to keep your filament dry—a crucial step for maintaining print quality. But before you rip it off and toss it in the trash, wait! This little tag has a second, "secret" function that can save your print job.

The Problem: The "Spring-Back" Effect

If you work with high-performance engineering materials, you know that stiffness is a feature, not a bug. However, high-hardness filaments—such as ABS-GF, PET-CF, PET-GF, and PPA-CF—behave differently than standard PLA.

Because these fiber-infused materials are so stiff, they hold a significant amount of tension when wound onto the spool. The moment you unlock the end of the filament from the secure holes on the side of the spool, that tension is released.

Without a steady hand placed on the filament, the filament can instantly snap back, uncoil, and spring loose. When users try to hurriedly respool that loose material, user could accidentally cross the lines. A crossed filament eventually leads to a bind, a extruder jam, and a failed print hours later.

The Solution: The Tag is Your "Third Hand"

This is where that little tag shines. We designed it to serve as a tension helper.

Don't tear it out immediately. When you first open the bag and release the filament from the spool holes, hold down the tag and leave the tag threaded on the strand.

  1. It maintains order: The tag acts as a physical barrier and weight, preventing the filament from snapping back wildly.

  2. It prevents crossing: By keeping the tag on while you guide the filament into your extruder or PTFE tube, you ensure the line stays straight. It makes it almost impossible to accidentally cross-wire the spool during that critical setup moment.

The Bottom Line

While moisture control is vital, mechanical reliability is just as important. That simple tag is a tool to help you handle the high tension of carbon-fiber and glass-fiber reinforced materials.

So, the next time you crack open a bag of Siraya Tech filament, keep the tag on until you are loaded and ready to print. It’s a small habit that prevents big tangles.
